Dave Goetz is president of CZ Strategy, a strategic marketing agency. He is the author of "Death by Suburb: How to Keep the Suburbs from Killing Your Soul" (HarperOne). He also wrote: "Native Tongue: Translating Your Message into the Language of Your Prospects" (Big Snowy Media).

He is a passionate fly fisher, cofounder of the podcast "2 Guys and a River," and author of "The Fly Fisher's Book of Lists: Life is short. Catch more fish."

He is also a board advisor, an angel investor, and co-author of "The Writing Podcast" with Melissa Parks. He started CZ in 2000.

A brand is a story, a memory that constituents relay to others about their experience with your organization. Some nonprofits fail to understand their larger story - and how to apply that story to every touch point of the organization. A well-told story is key to aligning your marketing efforts with your larger strategic plan. A compelling, clear story engages constituents, including new donors and your team.

First Principles for Marketing Your Nonprofit
Topic 2 Description
Today, nonprofits are awash with marketing ideas and technology, including AI (artificial intelligence). An effective nonprofit is highly focused in how it deploys resources for marketing and communications. For example, one "first principle" is "Everything that you do is marketing." This includes how you "handle" frustrated donors, build long-term relationships, and live out your mission.

Listeners will come away with 20 "First Principles" for marketing their organization. They will be able to sort through the hype of what's possible in marketing and focus only on what's most effective for their specific organization and set of constituents.
